Mitsubishi Heavy Wins Iceland Geothermal Power Plant Order
Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)–Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it has received an order to build five geothermal power plants for Icelandic utility firm Reykjavik Energy.
Mitsubishi Heavy won the order in a consortium with German engineering firm Balcke-Duerr GmbH.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Under the agreement, Mitsubishi Heavy will build plants with a total output of 225,000 kilowatts in a geothermal field in the suburbs of Reykjavik. The electricity will be supplied to aluminum refineries to be built in the area.
The plants are slated to start operations in October 2010.
The deal brings to 15 the number of geothermal power plants Iceland has ordered from Mitsubishi Heavy. The total output is 565,000 kilowatts.END
