Spanish clean energy firm Iberdrola Renovables's managing director, Xabier Viteri, has said that that the current scenario of high-priced energy resources will increase the competitiveness of the wind power industry.

Mr Viteri has pointed out that, in the current context of energy, wind power is closer to being competitive in cost terms. He explained that it is necessary in the meantime to maintain the support systems in order to give the definitive boost that the sector needs.

In addition, Mr Viteri has advocated a combined industry effort in order to overcome this challenge and considers it necessary to have the support of political parties, administrations and regulators in order to promote the commitment to renewable energies and avoid uncertainty in the sector. He also pointed out that the planning of infrastructure needs to be strengthened, especially for interconnections.

Mr Viteri said: "We have before us a market of gigantic dimensions, in which the agents that we deal with in the wind power sector are going to face an unprecedented challenge to increase competitiveness."
