UTC Power, a United Technologies company, has announced that the New York Power Authority has selected UTC to supply 12 fuel cells, totaling 4.MW of power capacity, for the Freedom Tower and three other new towers under construction at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, New York.
Delivery of UTC's PureCell Model 400 fuel cell systems will begin in January 2009. These systems at the World Trade Center (WTC) site will reportedly constitute one of the largest fuel cell installations in the world.
Jan van Dokkum, UTC Power's president, said: "We are extremely pleased to be part of this prestigious, landmark project that is a global example of green building design. New York Power Authority (NYPA) has been a long-time customer and champion of using fuel cells to generate clean on-site power."
