Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) has partnered with the City of Dallas and the Dallas Public Library to sponsor the year-round children’s activities series at Bookmarks. The announcement was made today during the grand opening of the nation’s first children’s library located in a premiere shopping center. Bookmarks is the new child-friendly Dallas public library located within the NorthPark Center, one of the largest shopping centers in North Texas.

Atmos Energy employees participated in the library’s grand opening to kick off a week full of activities to introduce Bookmarks to the Dallas community. The company also made a generous contribution to fund the library’s preschool and elementary school programs and performances that will be presented year-round in both the library and nearby in NorthCourt located between Nordstrom and Macy’s.

“Bookmarks is a wonderful place that encourages good reading habits by children,” said Kim R. Cocklin, Atmos Energy senior vice president of regulated operations. “If we can help the children use their imaginations and expose them to new experiences and concepts through reading at a young age, these children will reap the benefits from this passion their entire lives.”

Sandra Doyle, Atmos Energy director of public affairs, who coordinated the partnership added, “This is such a worthwhile effort, we are happy that the City of Dallas and the Dallas Public Library have allowed Atmos Energy to participate.”

Atmos Energy is involved in many community activities including the support of education. Last March, the company was the public-entity sponsor for the Dallas Public Library’s second bookmobile to bring books to students in their neighborhoods. In April, Atmos Energy completed the frontage changes for Madison High School as part of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert’s Project Front Door Program with the Dallas Independent School District. In addition to financial support, 47 Atmos Energy employees donated more than 900 hours of labor to the project. In May, Atmos Energy was a major sponsor of the Mayor’s Summer Reading Program to encourage young children to read.
