Air Malta and Turkish Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement, which is expected to enhance further co-operation between the two airlines and also promote economic relations between the two countries.

The agreement will enable Turkish Airlines to codeshare on Air Malta’s twice-weekly flights between Malta and Istanbul. The code also will allow Turkish Airlines to use its own flight numbers on flights operated by Air Malta. The first of the codeshared flights will take off in summer 2008.

“Expanding our relationship with Air Malta through this codeshare agreement is another step in our efforts to develop co-operation with the leading airlines throughout the world. We are sure that this partnership with the national airline of the country at the central part of Europe and the Mediterranean will bring both airlines more benefits, as well as increasing opportunities to our passengers,” Orhan Sivrikaya, Turkish Airlines executive vice president of commercial, was quoted by the Malta Independent as saying.

It is reported that passengers of both airlines will be offered a broader choice of connections that will be developed via Istanbul, to and from other destinations in the Turkish Airlines network.
