Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/fc4c7d/china_airport_indu) has announced the addition of the "China Airport Industry Report 2008" report to their offering.
In 2007 Chinese airports passenger throughput was 387.59 million people, an increase of 16.8 per cent year-on-year, 8.611 million tons of cargo passed through Chinese airports, an increase of 14.3 per cent year-on-year, and take off and landings numbered 3,940,800 times, an increase of 13 per cent year-on-year.
The position of China's airport in the international airport's ranking list has climbed. The passenger throughput of Beijing Capital Airport in 2007 was 53,736,900 persons, ranking it No. 9 in the world, the same position as 2006, but the gap between Frankfurt Airport at No. 8 has narrowed; in terms of cargo, the throughput of Shanghai Pudong Airport was 2.4948 million tons, ranking No. 5, climbing one position above it's position in 2006; in terms of take off and landings, Beijing Capital Airport had 400,000 take offs and landings, ranking it at No. 23, ascending 5 positions than it's 2006 position.
In order to deal with the shortage of airports' capacity, most major airports have launched expansion projects. Particularly notable expansions include the third-phase of Beijing Capital Airport, which opened in February 2008, the Shanghai Pudong Airport second terminal and third runway (which opened in March 2008). In addition, the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Shenzhen Airport are considering expansion projects as well.
