Hudson News Tapped to Operate News & Gifts Concessions at the New AIRMALL(R) at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
BAA Cleveland, the newly appointed master developer of retail, food and beverage concessions at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), has forged a partnership with Hudson News to manage and operate all news and gifts concessions at the soon-to-be-constructed AIRMALL(R) at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE). The contract became effective on June 1, 2008. The newly formed agreement promises to provide greater retail employment opportunities at the airport and dramatically improve the passenger experience.
“Hudson News is another key partner in BAA’s master plan to create new and exciting retail options for travelers who will visit the AIRMALL(R) at CLE,” noted Mark Knight, president of BAA Cleveland. “The concept consistently wins the top industry awards and receives praise from travelers for its wide variety of reading materials, gifts and snacks. This variety will also come with the AIRMALL(R) promise of ‘Regular Mall Prices…Guaranteed,’ which extends the value proposition for the discerning flyer.”
Honored numerous times by Airport Revenue News as the Best News and Gift Operator, Hudson News stores feature thousands of regional, national and international magazine titles along with an extensive selection of newspapers and books. A wide range of snacks, bottled beverages, film, batteries, health and beauty aids, traveler convenience items, tobacco products, candy, souvenir apparel and regional gifts supplement the reading materials.
During the transitional phase of the retail program at Hopkins, Hudson News will temporarily manage and operate ten storefronts, including seven Hudson News & Gifts stores, a Hudson Booksellers, a Discover Cleveland gift shop and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Store. When BAA Cleveland has completed the transformation of all retail operations at CLE, Hudson News will manage approximately 11 news and gift stores throughout the new AIRMALL(R) and employ approximately 70 people. This will result in a 40-percent increase in the number of retail jobs currently available at news and gift outlets at the airport.
“BAA Cleveland remains committed to ensuring that current news and gift retail employees receive the highest priority in terms of being considered for these new retail jobs,” added Knight. “Their applications go to the top of the pile.”

In February, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced that the City of Cleveland had forged a ten-year contract with BAA to develop and manage concessions at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The city anticipates that the new AIRMALL(R) at CLE will double retail sales figures at Hopkins over a ten-year period, double the number of concession jobs and double the current participation rate of local and minority-owned companies.
