BP was on Saturday the only major oil company still charging 12c a litre more than the start of the week after Caltex and Mobil dropped prices by 2c yesterday to bring them in line with Shell and Gull. All the companies raised their prices by 6c a litre early in the week in response to record crude oil hikes. BP, Caltex and Mobil added another 6c a litre on Thursday, which was initially resisted by Shell and Gull who raised prices by just 4c and 5c respectively yesterday.

Gull had been undercutting the rest by 1c before the move.

Caltex and Mobil then dropped prices to match Shell and Gull, the four now charging 210.9c for a litre of 91-octane petrol while BP’s price remained at 212.9c.
