Alcatel-Lucent to Acquire Service Management Software Company

Posted on: Thursday, 19 June 2008, 06:00 CDT

France-based Alcatel-Lucent has agreed to acquire service management software provider Motive for $67.8m, to simplify the management of subscriber services and devices.

The companies have earlier jointly developed and sold remote management software to 40 customers. In April 2006, Motive was delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange as it failed to make timely filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In the same year its top management left the company.

The acquisition will infuse new life into the company, which employs 300 people worldwide with R&D operations in Austin, Texas, and Bangalore, India. The company will become part of Alcatel-Lucent's Fixed Access Division, within the Carrier Business Group.

Luis Martinez Amago, president at Alcatel-Lucent's fixed access activities, said: "Integrating Motive's broadband and mobile service management expertise with our portfolio of wireline and wireless access technologies will allow customers to offer a new generation of complex services, blurring the boundaries between fixed and mobile networks, and increasing customer retention but without adding operational complexity."

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2008.
