Ford Sets September Deadline to Start Mondeo Production at Russian Plant
Ford Motor is likely to start the production of the Mondeo sedans at its St Petersburg plant in Russia by September 2008.
The plant near St Petersburg is reportedly the only Russian plant owned by the carmaker, and it presently manufactures the Focus models.
“We will launch Mondeo in September this year. We don’t have further plans but if the market increases we want to participate,” Wolfgang Schneider, vice president of Ford Europe, was reported as saying. It is claimed that the carmaker is also likely to produce the Kuga small sport utility vehicle at the plant.
The plan will reportedly involve the production of around 72,000 Focus and 1,000 Mondeo vehicles in 2008. However, the company plans to increase the plant’s total annual capacity to 125,000 units.
