Take-Off for Pounds 45m Work
WORK is under way on a new pounds 45 million extension to Birmingham International Airport’s Terminal One.
The new ‘International Pier’ will replace the current out-dated facility built in 1984 and is the single biggest investment that the airport has made in 20 years.
Work on the new Pier, a three storey construction 240 metres long and 24 metres wide, began yesterday.
Departing passengers will be accommodated on the top level, with arrivals on the middle level and office accommodation for airline and handling agents on the ground floor.
The new facility will provide air-bridged aircraft parking for seven widebodied aircraft and enough space to serve 13 smaller aircraft at any given time.
New gate lounges for passengers will also be created.
