Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Company is helping to take pressure off the earth's oceans by raising awareness and demand for sustainably-raised shrimp. This groundbreaking company -- whose frozen prepared entrees and appetizers are found in retail stores throughout the U.S. and Canada -- showcases its eco-conscious products at the 54th Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City from June 29 - July 1, in the Jacob K. Javits Center, booth 1448 on Level 3.
Blue Horizon Organic fosters relationships with local fishermen and family farms to source U.S.D.A. Certified Organic ingredients and antibiotic/hormone-free, sustainably-raised "clean" seafood. This dedication to quality is reflected in Blue Horizon Organic's vibrant entrees and appetizers, and with the recent endorsement of green lifestyle expert and television host Sara Snow, Blue Horizon Organic is growing fast.
Shrimp is the most consumed seafood in the United States, and as demand grows, the methods of supply become a growing concern. Trawling for wild-caught shrimp often results in unintended by-catch and ocean floor destruction, while most conventional shrimp farming involves over-crowded ponds -- which increases the need for antibiotics, preservatives and other additives. Blue Horizon Organic works with farmers who are stewards of the environment, and whose shrimp are certified to be hormone-, antibiotic- and preservative-free. The shrimp harvests follow closely monitored practices and include fair treatment and wages for workers. These practices are internationally certified by Naturland(R) of Germany, QCS(R) of the USA, and EcoCert(R) of France.
Blue Horizon Organic is led by two respected pioneers in organic foods. John Battendieri and Tim Redmond previously were builders of such brands as Millina's Finest Pastas and Sauces, Santa Cruz Organics, Eden Foods, and VRUIT Juices. They focused their attention on sustainable seafood after recognizing both an alarming depletion of seafood stocks and increasing consumer demand. In 2005 they formed Blue Horizon Organic Seafood and realized tremendous demand for their value-added sustainable seafood products.
The New York Fancy Food Show is presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade. Up to 24,000 people have attended a single show, representing specialty food, wine, gift and department stores, supermarkets, restaurants, mail-order and other related businesses. Blue Horizon Organic will be one of more than a thousand exhibitors present from around the world.
Blue Horizon only partners with conservation-compliant, third-party-certified operations and wild fisheries. Its model precludes the use of growth hormones, antibiotics, tripolyphosphates, preservatives or artificial colorings, and it factors in water quality, low-density growth environments, and organic feed into the aquaculture operations it works with. Blue Horizon was founded to help positively impact the health and viability of aquatic ecosystems and consumers alike. Learn more at www.bluehorizonorganic.com.
