Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- A report by the Emirates Bank International states that electrical power generation capacity in the United Arab Emirates is expected to grow 60% to 26,000 megawatts (MW) in the next four years as demand grows at an average rate of 10% through 2010. Oman is targeting a 48% increase in gas supplies to 7.2 billion cubic meters by 2013. This volume is needed to feed power and desalination plants, as well as to meet rising power demand. The country's latest power project is a 400-MW power and water desalination plant at the Port of Salalah in the southern part of the country. Mitsui & Company Limited (NASDAQ:MITSY) (Chiyoda, Tokyo), Sembcorp (SIN:U96) (Singapore) and Mubadala (Abu Dhabi) have been shortlisted for the project, and a contract is expected to be awarded in the fourth quarter of 2008.
