Text of report by Iranian official government news agency IRNA
Ardabil, 23 June: The governor-general of Ardabil Province has announced that oil exploration will begin in a field in Moghan District in the near future.
In an interview with reporters on Monday [23 June] Ali Nikzad said: The winner of the tender for the exploration of Moghan is a Croatian company, and officials of that company will visit Ardabil to investigate ways of starting work.
He stressed: The Moghan oil exploration and extraction project has created a unique opportunity for the development of the provincial economy and will accelerate its growth.
The Moghan District oil exploration project is one of the projects approved during the president's visit to Ardabil Province last year. So far, exploration work has been carried out in some oil fields of which two are located in Qirlu District in Moghan's Bilehsavar.
Basic studies show that there are 2bn barrels of oil in the two fields in Qirlu District alone. The oil reserves in these fields contain light oil, which is very good and valuable in terms of the quality and processing of oil products.
