Illinois Coal Associations Sponsor Safety Workshop

COAL WORKSHOP The 2008 Annual Illinois Mining Institute (IMI) will be held Sept. 8-9,2008 at Crowne Plaza, Springfield, IL. The IMI will also host “An Interactive Workshop on Midwest Mine Health and Safety Issues” in conjunction with the annual meeting. The workshop will have two sessions. Session I will focus on mine seals and refuge chambers; Session II will discuss noise control and dust control issues.
The workshop is cosponsored by the Illinois Coal Association, the Illinois Clean Coal Institute/ Office of Coal Development of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the Illinois Office of Mines and Minerals, Southern Illinois University’s Coal Research Center and Department of Mining and Mineral Resources Engineering and the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers.
Professionals from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration, academia and industry have been invited to speak. The IMI meeting will also feature a golf outing, a mine-rescue competition and an equipment and services exhibit.
