Power services provider Bord Gais Energy Supply has acknowledged that all the electricity being supplied by it to the Ferrycarrig Hotel, in southeastern Ireland, is derived from renewable energy sources.
This supply contract is part of Bord Gais Energy Supply's renewable electricity product, which seeks to help customers meet their environmental obligations. The utility provides electricity to over 8,500 businesses around Ireland.
In an initiative led by senior management over the last two years, the Ferrycarrig Hotel has set out an environmental policy and appointed an environmental manager, Chris Culleton, to lead a process of change.
The next step was seeking an energy supplier who could provide green electricity to the hotel. According to Mr Culleton, the hotel approached a number of suppliers enquiring about the possibility of supplying the hotel with green electricity.
Mr Culleton said: "We were impressed both by the competitive offer available through Bord Gais Energy Supply and their response on green electricity. Although some additional investment is required over traditional sources, we would not be able to take this step if it was not an economically viable option for The Ferrycarrig."
