Dominion Virginia Power Issues Statement on Approval of Air Permits for Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center

RICHMOND, Va., June 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dominion Virginia Power has issued the following statement on the action today of the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board to approve air permits for the company's proposed Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center in Wise County, Va.:

"We have not yet had the opportunity to review the final permits, but this decision paves the way for us to start construction in the very near future."

The Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center would have a generating capacity of 585 megawatts, capable of powering approximately 146,000 homes. It is designed to meet strict emissions limitations while burning a mix of fuels, including coal, coal waste known as "gob," and biomass. The $1.8 billion project would begin commercial operation in 2012.
