Thai Airways to Suspend Bangkok-New York Service

Posted on: Friday, 27 June 2008, 09:02 CDT

Thai Airways has announced that it will suspend its service between Bangkok and New York, effective July 1, 2008, due to the continually increasing cost of jet fuel.

The airline said that, while it will discontinue its New York operations, the company will retain service on the return Bangkok-Los Angeles route, which will utilize Airbus A340-500 aircraft until September 2008. Thereafter, the carrier will utilize Boeing 777-200ER aircraft to and from Los Angeles at five flights per week.

Apinan Sumanaseni, president of Thai Airways, said: "The company has implemented a reduction of flight frequencies, re-routed flights with particular impact on its US flight operations, and other cost cutting measures."

My wife had a reservation on this flight to return to NY on july 1 and we've heard nothing about it being canceled from Thai Airlines. Lucky I saw this story.
