Local Parts Maker Expands Plant

June 27, 2008

By Debbie Blossom, The Oklahoman

Jun. 27–A longtime local manufacturer that for decades focused on making replacement refrigeration compressor parts has expanded its southeast Oklahoma City plant to include production of custom-made products.

A 40,000-square-foot addition to the CMP Corp. plant at 4101 SE 85 now houses CMP Custom Manufacturing, which will produce specialty compressor parts for the oil, medical and electronic industries, said Ben Harrison, president and chief operating officer.

The new building “has almost doubled our manufacturing area,” Harrison said, which has grown to more than 80,000 square feet.

Work on the addition began more than a year ago and was completed in May. The company declined to comment on the cost of expanding its facility.

CMP installed new, advanced machining equipment and recently hired 10 employees, he said. The company also added 26 workers and equipment in 2006 when the company acquired another local manufacturing company, Glenn Tool.

“In the past, 99 percent of our business was making and selling spare parts to repair or rebuild air conditioning compressors,” Harrison said.

With the purchase of Glenn Tool, CMP increased its engineering and design capabilities for its move into customized manufacturing.

CMP began in 1966 with one employee but now has more than 3,000 clients in more than 106 countries. It claims to be the world’s largest producer of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration compressor parts.
