Oil Impasse Continues in Nepal

Nepalese government officials were unable to reach an agreement Saturday with the Nepal Petroleum Dealers Association, news media says.

The Web site eKantiput reported the two sides failed to break through the impasse regarding an ongoing dispute over the irregular supply of petroleum products.

The talks during the last few days included demands from the dealers for increased commissions, government officials said.

The talks did not include any demands for increased petroleum imports or discussion of diesel or kerosene prices. Both of those topics had been openly discussed outside the negotiations, eKantiput reported.

Association officials said one problem with the negotiations was government officials' indifference regarding increased petroleum supplies, the Web site said.
