Airport Route Talks Welcomed By MP
THE start of public consultations on improved road access to Cardiff Airport has been welcomed by Vale of Glamorgan MP John Smith.
The Welsh Assembly Government has commissioned consultants Arup to investigate transport options to improve access to the airport and alleviate traffic and safety problems at Culverhouse Cross.
From July 3 to October 3 the public will be able to have their say on three routes that are being considered.
Mr Smith said: "I welcome the public consultation which will enable people in the Vale of Glamorgan to give their views on the options that are being looked at by the Welsh Assembly Government and Arup.
"What is certain is that we cannot leave things the way they are.
"Cardiff Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK. The existing airport access road is a brake on the airport's future growth and the local economy and won't be able to cope with the extra road traffic generated by the Defence Academy on the airport's doorstep."
