Turkmenistan Not to Join Nabucco Project – Russian Official

Excerpt from report by Russian state news agency ITAR-TASS

Asgabat, 4 July: Turkmenistan is not going to take part in the construction of Nabucco gas pipeline network, Sergey Prihodko, the Russian president's aide told journalists today.

"Our Turkmen colleagues, during talks with us, have not mentioned Nabucco at all," he said. "Perhaps, Nabucco project as well as its implementation are just virtual dreams of European officials," Prihodko says.

Nabucco, a 3,300-km gas pipeline project, is designed to link the European Union with oil and gas deposits of Central Asia and the Middle East. It is expected that its construction will start in 2010. The line, which is worth 7bn euros, will run along the route of Turkey-Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Austria

[Passage omitted: Russia will not take part in Nabucco either]
