Need to Know: Stobart Could Take Off With Airport

July 5, 2008

TRANSPORT firm Stobart Group yesterday said it was extending the option to purchase Carlisle airport for a further six months at a cost of GBP 50,000.

Stobart proposed in March to enter into an option to acquire the airport for up to GBP 15 million. It wants to upgrade the airport’s facilities and build a new logistics centre.

Chairman Rodney Baker-Bates said: “The airport enables Stobart to consolidate its operations and create and save jobs for several hundred people in Carlisle.”
