AHMEDABAD: Five cricket bookies were nabbed and a total of 41 mobile phones recovered from their possession on Thursday. The racket was busted by a team of Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) in Satellite.
The raid was carried out at a tenament near Shyamal crossroads and five bookies were found with 41 mobile phones - almost eight for one.
According to PCB officials, on the basis of a prior tip-off, they raided a tenament in Saurashtra Vishwakarma Society, near Shyamal crossroads around 10.30 pm on Wednesday where a notorious bookie Dinesh Thakkar alias Dinsha was running a cricket betting racket on ongoing India-Pakistan cricket match of Asia Cup series played in Pakistan.
"We found Thakkar and four others with 41 mobile phones, two laptops, a television set and Rs 68,330 cash. We also found diaries used to maintain records of customers. We hope some breakthrough with the help of these," said a PCB official.
The five were then handed over to Satellite police early on Thursday morning for further interrogation. However, the accused were later released on bail by the metropolitan court, said Satellite police officials.
