PUC to Hold Meeting About Power Cuts

Jul. 6–KUWAIT — The Public Utility Committee (PUC) will be a holding a meeting this week in order to discuss the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s plan regarding power cuts. PUC Chairman MP Abdul Aziz Al-Shayjie noted that the MEW’s plan must focus on how to avoid electricity cuts in a several areas in the state as they have been happening quite frequently this summer.
Al-Shayjie pointed out that the PUC will call upon Minister of Electricity and Water Mohammad Al-Olaim to attend the meeting. In another meeting, Al-Olaim pointed out that these power cuts have all been looked into and that they will not be repeated. The MEW minister further noted that the Cabinet is currently discussing ways to prevent power outages in the future.
MP Mohamad Al-Kandari said that they will discuss the reasons provided by the MEW for the current electricity cuts that is occurring around the state while the meeting is in progress. The MP said the repeated power cuts were due to previous mistakes made by the Ministry of Electricity and Water. “These cuts are mostly the fault of the ministry as they have not prepared well for this summer,” Al-Kandari added.
The MEW has asked that all government organizations and that the residents of Kuwait continue to cooperate with the ministry and do their best to save electricity during the summer.
