Store’s Own is Tops for Malts

A SUPERMARKET’S own label single malt has beaten several branded whiskies to take an international title.

Tesco’s 12-year-old Highland Single Malt beat names such as Laphroaig, Glenmorangie, Bowmore and Glenkinchie at the International Wine and Spirit Competition awards.

It won the Anglo Overseas Trophy for the best single malt whisky up to 15 years old in the blind tasting.

Tesco spokesman Simon Dunn said: “This award will come as a real shock to the whisky industry.”
