Passengers Hit New Heights at City Airport

July 10, 2008

EDINBURGH Airport recorded its busiest June last month, with passenger numbers boosted by popular international routes.

New figures from airport operator BAA Scotland show that overall traffic for the month was up by 1.5 per cent on last year, with a total of 859,382 passengers using the airport.

This bucked the overall trend for Scottish airports, which recorded a 1.8 per cent drop in passengers across the board.

BAA said new services to Pisa and Alicante showed strong growth, while other key European routes such as Paris, Dortmund, Stockholm and Oslo also performed well.

Closer to home, 485,307 passengers travelled on domestic services in June, with more than 120,000 of those travelling to and from Heathrow.

Overall domestic traffic, however, continued to decline, and was down by 3.1 per cent on last year.

The traffic figures take the number of passengers travelling to and from Edinburgh Airport over the past 12 months to 9.1 million.
