Narita Airport Users During Summer Break Expected to Fall
Tokyo, July 10 (Jiji Press)–The number of travelers using Narita International Airport, east of Tokyo, is expected to fall in this year’s summer holiday season after hitting a record a year before, its operator said Thursday.
The number of travelers between July 17 and Aug. 31 is projected to fall 3.7 pct from a year before to 3,745,800, Narita International Airport Corp. said.
The expected decline largely reflects soaring fuel surcharges on international airfares at a time of high crude oil prices.
In addition, the number of travelers to China is expected to decrease sharply following a powerful earthquake that struck Sichuan in May. The Beijing Olympic Games in August is unlikely to help boost demand, the operator said.
South Korea and Taiwan are the most popular destinations.END
