Police Hunt for Thieves

July 12, 2008

POLICE officers were on the hunt for metal thieves at a Metro station.

Flat-bed trucks were stopped around Heworth station in Gateshead as part of an ongoing campaign to tackle the increase in metal thefts.

Operation Firedrake was carried out with the help of fraud investigators, as well as staff from Gateshead Council and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.

Police said they wanted to disrupt the activities of metal thieves and also reduce the fear of such crimes.
