Short-Weight Coal Warning ; Householders With Coal Fires Are Being Warned to Check They Are Not Being Short-Changed on Deliveries.
Householders with coal fires are being warned to check they are not being short-changed on deliveries.
Somerset County Council’s trading standards team investigated a coal delivery to a Bawdrip resident and found it was 15 per cent short of the one tonne purchased.
As a result, fines of more than pounds2,000 were levied on the company owner and delivery driver, and an order was made to pay the council’s legal costs and the customer compensation.
As well as shopping around for the best price, the team advise the public to be eagle-eyed when their coal arrives. Deliveries should come with a document stating the customer’s details, the trader’s details, the net quantity of coal and the number of containers.
