Eco Mow is Total Lawn Care Service
By Jessica Legge, The Times West Virginian, Fairmont
Jul. 20--FAIRMONT -- Eco Mow isn't just a "total lawn care service" -- it's also environmentally friendly.David Jefferson, 26, has been cutting the grass for his mother "since before he can remember." He is originally from Clarksburg but has lived in Fairmont for seven or eight years.
After previously doing some lawn work for other people, Jefferson decided to venture out on his own. In May, he started Eco Mow, which does mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, weed control and grub control. One employee helps Jefferson with the work.
"I'm kind of environmentally conscious," Jefferson said. "I was aware of some of these methods, but I realized that nobody really used them."
Jefferson uses push reel mowers that are new and top-of-the-line. These lawn mowers don't have an engine and are silent. He also has battery-powered weed eaters.
"I don't use any gasoline or any chemicals at all," he said.
He said the environmental methods that he uses separate him from the competition, and people are interested in his work.
"I take some pride in the fact that it's a total nonpolluting method," Jefferson said. "I think my customers feel like they're doing their little part for the environment by acquiring my services."
Eco Mow is staying pretty busy and business is going well so far, he said. He currently has about 18 customers.
Jefferson works about every day and has flexible hours. He is able to work earlier and later in the day because his lawn equipment isn't noisy. Some clients have been very thankful that they could get their grass mowed without their children being woken up, he said.
