Peak Power Demand Surges at Tokyo Electric
Tokyo, July 25 (Jiji Press)–Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Friday that the peak power demand in the company’s service area topped 60 million kilowatts for the first time this summer the same day.
The surge apparently reflected growing power consumption for air conditioning amid rising mercury.
At the company, the weekday peak power demand has remained above 50 million kilowatts since July 14. On Friday, the peak demand reached 60.08 million kilowatts as of 3 p.m., according to the firm.
Chubu Electric Power Co. , which serves the Chubu region of central Japan, also said that its peak power demand hit a record high of 28.03 million kilowatts between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday.
Tokyo Electric Power expects its peak power demand to rise to as high as 61 million kilowatts this summer. The firm can supply up to 66.7 million kilowatts of electricity.END
