Businesses close to a boarded-up eyesore opposite the KC Stadium in west Hull have called for action to be taken over the property.

Hull City Council officials are currently examining a range of options for the crumbling privately owned block in Anlaby Road next to the junction with Perry Street.

They include securing ownership under a compulsory purchase order and demolishing the block – which comprises of four ground-floor shop units and flats above – after it has become a target for vandals and arson attacks.

But neighbouring businesses say they have waited long enough for action to be taken.

Anthony Grant, a director of Reptile Rescue and Reptile Land, said: “The issue of what to do with the building and the terrace of shops has been dragging on for years.

“One minute we hear the council wants to get rid of the whole terrace and create a public square, now it’s just the empty property at the end.

“It’s a complete eyesore and the uncertainty is not helpful.”

Dawn Johnson, who has owned a hair salon on the same block since 1985, said: “I don’t think they can make their minds up what do with it.”

The area around Perry Street is earmarked for regeneration under the long-term Gateway Pathfinder scheme, although no firm proposals have yet to emerge.
