Mine Blast Injures 16 People in Siberia

Sixteen miners have been injured as a result of an accident at a mine in Kemerovo Region, Russian Vesti TV reported on 29 July.

The accident occurred this morning as a result of a methane ignition during repair work at the mine, which belongs to the Mechel [coal and steel] group. Thirty-four miners were in the mine when the accident occurred, all of them came to the surface on their own.

An investigation into the incident has been launched, the report added.
