Anschutz Affiliate Gets Wind Project
By Gargi Chakrabarty
The Anschutz Corp., through its affiliate Transwest Express LLC, headquartered in Denver, has acquired the TransWest Express Transmission Project and will assume the role of developer. Construction will begin on the proposed $3 billion, 900-mile project in two to three years with the goal of delivering wind power from southern Wyoming to southern California, Las Vegas and Phoenix. A study called "The West's Renewable Energy Future" by National Grid and Energy Strategies LLC concluded that wind- generated electricity produced in southern Wyoming and delivered via large-scale transmission systems is the most viable option for meeting the clean power demands of the desert Southwest throughout Arizona, Nevada and southern California.
