Sharp-Daiwa House JV to Build Lithium-Ion Battery Plant
Tokyo, July 30 (Jiji Press)–Eliiy Power Co. will build a plant to mass-produce large lithium-ion batteries in the eastern Japan city of Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, the municipal government announced Wednesday.
The company, a joint venture whose investors include Sharp Corp. and Daiwa House Industry Co. , will build the new plant on a 30,000- square-meter site, aiming to start operations in October 2009.
The batteries will be used to store solar energy for backup power supplies to cover emergencies.
Details such as the size of the investment and the production capacity of the plan were not disclosed.END
