Demolish St Paul’s Plan
AN aid agency has put in an application to demolish St Paul's Cathedral in protest at plans to mine a sacred mountain in India.
ActionAid lodged the application with the City of London's planning and transportation department requesting the "total demolition" of the London landmark to mine for precious metals underneath.
The charity is aiming to raise awareness of plans by Vedanta Resources to open a mine to extract bauxite, used to make aluminium, from the Niyamgiri mountain in the Indian state of Orissa, sacred to the 8,000-strong Kondh tribe, who believe it is home to their god Niyam Raja.
