More than 1,000 Verizon workers, including Kevin Preston, center, of Southboro rallied in front of the Verizon building in Post Office Square yesterday, as the Communications Workers of America union put pressure on the cable and Internet provider to reach a contract deal. Picketers, who include engineers and customer service workers, are fighting a proposal that has workers retiring from 2009 onward paying for their own health care, increases worker health-care payments and eliminates coverage for new hires upon retirement.
