Power Cut Offender May Have Electrical Burns
Detectives investigating scrap metal thefts are asking anyone who may have treated a man for burns to come forward.
They believe a thief who tried to cut through underground cabling may have injured himself in the process.
Police were called to investigate after someone used a hacksaw on the cables at a building site in Scotia Road, at its junction with Beaumont Road, Tunstall. The thief struck at 3am on Wednesday.
Although the thief failed to cut through the underground cabling, the damage to it caused 1,600 homes to lose power.
Officers working on Operation Amalgam are appealing for information.
They believe the thief may have suffered burns as a result of cutting the cable, and could have gone for medical help.
