Gas Natural has begun installation of the main equipment for the new 400MW combined cycle power plant at a site in Parque Tecnologico de Andalucia in Malaga, Spain.
The plant, which is expected to begin operating in the third quarter of 2009, involves an investment of around E250 million. Having obtained all the required authorizations and permits, the company has carried out mainly civil and building works, and has also worked on the installation of recovery boiler and chimney equipment.
The next phase includes installation of the gas turbine, compressor, generator and the transformer. The company will then install the auxiliary mechanical equipment, the supports and the framework for the plant's pipes.
Coinciding with the installation of the plant, a 9.3km power line, which connects the plant to the electricity grid, is also being constructed. The last 1.2km of this line will be underground.
Gas Natural is also constructing a water recycling plant which will have sufficient capacity to supply the plant, with any excess being made available to the Malaga Town Council. The project is also enabling natural gas supplies to be brought into the Parque Tecnologico de Andalucia.
