Our Don’t Drill Democrats II
I recently wrote to Congressman Jason Altmire about his energy policies. I appreciate the time he took to respond, but I was amazed at the compendium of nonanswers he covered — including suing OPEC.
Congressman Altmire claims to support increased domestic drilling by voting to drill on land already leased to oil companies. However, the oil companies’ leases are unproductive where there is no oil or gas, or where Congress has blocked drilling and extraction where there is oil and gas.
Am I to believe that the oil companies are sitting on billions of dollars of oil and are not drilling for it?
Renewable energy is a grand idea, but it’s not going to happen soon. Corn-based ethanol has proved to be energy inefficient and has raised prices of most farm commodities.
So what are Altmire’s real objections to opening up new territories? If he has objections, I haven’t heard them. Or does he just do what he’s told by Nancy Pelosi — constituents be damned.
Our small farm uses diesel and gas. The price increases have injured us financially. We cannot simply pass this on. Surely Altmire does not want those of us who use home heating oil to freeze this winter?
