Constellation Energy Names Manager for Hillabee Plant
BALTIMORE, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy today announced that Tony Padgett has been named general manager of the Hillabee Energy Center in Alexander City, Ala. His appointment will be effective in August.
Hillabee Energy is a partially completed 774 megawatt natural gas power plant located in Tallapoosa County near Alexander City, Ala. Constellation Energy purchased Hillabee from Calpine Corporation as part of a court-approved auction in February 2008.
"We're taking the necessary steps to safely and promptly move the Hillabee project toward commercial operation by 2010," said Dale Linaweaver, managing director, East Region for Constellation Power Generation, a subsidiary of Constellation Energy. "Appointing Tony as plant manager is yet one more significant step toward achieving that goal. Tony is a seasoned energy industry leader and has the proven ability to direct the safe operation of power plants while staying focused on our environmental responsibility. He will no doubt be an asset to the plant and the community of Alexander City."
The Hillabee facility is approximately 80 percent complete, and is expected to be operational in 2010 when permitting, construction and commissioning are finalized. Approximately 26 full-time workers will be employed at the Hillabee facility when it is fully operational.
Padgett will move to Hillabee from Constellation Energy's Rio Bravo Poso and Rio Bravo Jasmin facilities, two coal-fired power plants located in Bakersfield, Calif. He has served as plant manager of the two California plants since 2007.
Padgett has been employed in the energy industry for more than 17 years, including previous experience with Calpine Corporation's Osprey Energy Center in Florida and Aries Power Project in Pleasant Hill, Mo. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.
