"The President Should Release Oil From the SPR", World Energy Interviews Democratic Congressman Gene Green
Posted on: Thursday, 7 August 2008, 09:00 CDT
While Republican congressmen debated the energy issue on the floor of the closed Congress, World Energy Television took the time to visit with Congressman Gene Green, a Democrat from the 29th District of Texas. In the interview, Congressman Green discussed the need to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), approve Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) drilling and avoid implementing a "use it or lose it" plan on currently leased property. As an oil patch Democrat, he points out that in his energy policies, he is not "too different from the Republicans."
Referring to the energy plans of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, the congressman said that "both of them probably need some education." He went on to say that "whether you are a Democrat or Republican, I don't think we can sustain $4 gasoline." When queried on whether Obama would approve OCS drilling, Green could not predict but stated: "Whoever is elected president may be a one-termer if they don't get a handle on energy." "As constituents, it is very important to voice our opinion to Congress as loudly as possible," asserted Richard Loomis, CEO of World Energy, following the interview. He added, "Gene made it very clear that Congress will listen, but we have to take the time to call, write and discuss what we want Congress to do."
As part of the series "An Inside Look," this interview follows compelling discussions with energy investor Matt Simmons of Simmons & Company International and Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks of the UK. You can watch this interview and others at www.WorldEnergySource.com/wetv.
