Chinese Advisory Body Chief Greets Vietnam President, Mexico Ex- President

[Report by reporter Wu Jing: "(Beijing Olympics) Jia Qinglin Meets with Foreign Guests Attending the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics"]Beijing, 7 Aug (Xinhua) - Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference [CPPCC], separately met with foreign guests who would be attending the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics at the Great Hall of the People on 7 August.
During his meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, Jia said: China and Vietnam have been good neighbours and the friendship between the peoples of the two countries goes back to ancient times. Relations between China and Vietnam have seen constant new developments in recent years as a result of the great efforts jointly made by the two sides. There have been frequent high- level contacts between the two countries, economic and trade cooperation has scaled one new height after another, and their cooperation in other areas has scored great successes. The Chinese side is ready to work jointly with the Vietnamese side to continue to elevate the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level. The CPPCC wishes to strengthen its cooperation with the Vietnam Motherland Front to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries and strengthen the social foundation for friendship between the two countries.
Nguyen said: The party and government of Vietnam are pleased with the favourable momentum of development in the Vietnam-China relations and are ready to unceasingly broaden the scope of their cooperation with China in order to push forward the comprehensive and profound development of the bilateral relations.
During his meeting with former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, Jia welcomed him to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and spoke highly of the positive contributions he had made during his presidency to the development of mutually beneficial and friendly cooperative relations between China and Mexico. Jia said: Both China and Mexico are major developing countries and have a broad consensus on maintaining world peace and facilitating joint development. The Chinese side attaches great importance to developing its relations with Mexico and wishes to work jointly with the Mexican side to push forward the development of their bilateral strategic partnership in an all-round way. Jia wished the Mexican athletes good results [at the Games].
Zedillo expressed admiration for the efforts made by the Chinese leaders to bring progress to their country. He was thankful for the invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and wished the Beijing Olympics a complete success.
