August 9, 2008

Text of report by private Georgian news agency Kavkas-Press

Tbilisi, 9 August: Russian airborne forces have started bombing pipelines. Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze said this at a cabinet meeting today [9 August].

These pipelines are transit ones, and their malfunctioning cannot affect the Georgian economy. Yet they have been shelled, though no damage has been reported," he said.

Gurgenidze said he could not find any logic behind these actions.

"The county’s state system and economy have been fully functioning. We had predicted the threats. I think that nothing is posing danger to our country. There are not even slightest signs of panic," Gurgenidze said.
