Tbilisi, Batumi Airports Still Functioning – Georgian Minister
Tbilisi, 9 August: Flights at Georgia’s international airports are taking place as normal, Economic Development Minister Eka Sharashidze has said.
She said that no evacuation had taken place at Batumi airport and that at present all flights at Tbilisi and Batumi airports were going ahead without problems.
The head of the Ajaria [region where Batumi is located] government, Levan Varshalomidze, said that the situation had indeed been tense at the Batumi airport this evening when a Turkish plane failed to land for technical reasons. This, he said, held up some flights.
He also called on the people of Ajaria not to succumb to provocation.
