Tokyo Gas Takes Stake in Biomass Power Firm
Tokyo, Aug. 11 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Gas Co. said Monday it has taken a stake in an eastern Japan firm preparing to start power generation using wood waste.
Tokyo Gas acquired a 4.44 pct stake in the company, Agatsuma Biopower, which was previously a wholly owned unit of leasing company Orix Corp. , for an undisclosed sum.
For fuel, the plant will use wood waste, including discarded construction materials. Combustion of such fuel is considered to have a neutral impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, because plants remove the heat-trapping gas from the air during growth.
Tokyo Gas will buy all of the electricity to be generated by Agatsuma Biopower's new plant.END
