Laos to consume more fuel
HANOI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Laos, using over 480 million liters of gasoline and diesel last year, is estimated to consume 220 million liters of gasoline and 300 liters of diesel in 2010, Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Tuesday.
Laos is also forecast to use more than 400 million liters of gasoline and over 600 million liters of diesel in 2020, the newspaper quoted Bouathep Malaykham, director of the Electricity Department under the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mines, as saying.
The Lao government has encouraged people to reduce their fuel consumption and support the production of alternative fuel.
Laos has plenty of land available for growing jatropha plants and palm trees which can be used to produce bio-diesel, the newspaper said.
