The China National Petroleum Corporation has stated that it is taking all measures to ensure a safe and stable supply of gas for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games by utilizing infrastructure and volumes from across China.

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is accessing resources from the gas producing areas of Changqing, Tarim, Huabei, Dagang and Liaohe, together with the two Shaan-Jing gas pipelines and Dagang underground gas storages, to deliver natural gas to the six host cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao and Qinhuangdao.

Besides gas supply to the Olympic cauldron, all the natural gas used for restaurants in the Olympic village, hundreds of hotels and restaurants who signed contracts with the Beijing Organizing Committee, and other public facilities for the reception of Olympic visitors, is provided by CNPC.

In 2008, CNPC’s gas supply to Beijing is expected to reach a historical high of 6.8 billion cubic meters in order to meet the special environmental requirements for the Olympic Games.
