‘Big Oil’ Actually a Big Boon to Americans
By Jack Palmer
U.S. Rep. Mark Udall's main attack on Bob Schaffer is that he is in the pocket of "Big Oil" and has received campaign donations from "Big Oil."ExxonMobil, the poster child of "Big Oil," has itself paid more than $64 billion in income taxes over the past several years. "Big Oil" employs hundreds of thousands of American workers. "Big Oil" pays millions of dollars in dividends to Americans who own "Big Oil" in their 401(k)s and IRAs. And "Big Oil" spends billions in research and development in efforts to make the United States less dependent on foreign oil.Udall has received thousands of dollars from "Big Environmentalists," most, if not all, of whom are tax- exempt entities, have relatively few employees and have, with the help of liberal politicians like Udall and U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, put in place the policies that have resulted in $4-a-gallon pump prices.Look at the voting history of Udall and Salazar on energy issues and you will see that the real bogyman is not "Big Oil."
